    Dear MS-FACT,

Hi. My name is Jim. I recently posted a response to a Clarion Ledger news article about a protest in front of Farm Bureau. My comments were very general, and I made comparisons to animal rights and human rights. Please accept my apology. Whether my comments were or were not true or valid, my comments were misdirected. I am very passionate about animals and animal rights. My wife and I have two wonderful cats--one male and one female. The have been neutered and spayed. Several years ago, we watched an HBO program that focused on a class B kennel in Arkansas. The kennel owner frequented a flea market in north Mississippi to purchase animals, most stolen dogs, for storage in his kennel and sale for testing. The conditions were very terrible. The animals were abused and killed. We have seen so many programs and news articles about animal abuse. The issue of abortion is such a passionate issue that some people may be hasty in comparing human rights to animal rights. Furthermore, in that haste, they may loose sight of the differences between your organization's mission, and those organizations that are opposed to hunting altogether, for example. With all do respect, if your supporters call people idiots, then their passion is as misdirected as mine. Kindly explain to them you're not PETA, or you're not against hunting. I would like to talk to you more about your mission, and I may contribute to your cause.

    Respectfully,

    Jim

Thank you Jim for writing your comment to MS-FACT.  It is not our intent to downplay any others from pursuing issues that touch closely to their heart and home.  But, we also deserve the respect we have for our passion for tougher laws to help protect the well-being of cats and dogs.  I, personally, am an Occupational Therapist, which is an occupation to help people to live quality lives to their fullest.  But, in retrospect to that, I have a passion for man's best friends, cats and dogs.  I volunteer at my local humane society and the number of cruelty cases that come through the doors is sometimes overwhelming.  You can see the pain and suffering in their eyes they have endured during their lives.  This is why I am so passionate about passing laws to help protect dogs and cats.  In turn, somewhere down the line, if those known to abuse animals were prosecuted and gotten help in the early stages, may in turn save someone elses life.  As research shows, most who have abused animals at an early age, in turn, result in committing violate crimes against people somewhere down the road.  It is not our purpose to delve into the farmers, hunters, fishing, or food industry in the state.  We just want laws to protect our most dearest friends and companions, dogs and cats.

With that said, we are not PETA and are a group who work tiredlessly to help the dogs and cats in our state from some of the most horrific cases of cruelty.  Most of us see such cruelty throughout our state on a daily basis.  We feel it is time for MS to step up and stop condoning these practices with no more than a slap on the hand, or in most instances, no consequence at all.

This is why we are desperately trying to spread the word as this inhumane behavior has been overlooked for way to long.

      Gail
